The Dreadful Dentist

I had a few cavities filled earlier this morning and one 2 weeks ago. Each time they have had trouble numbing my mouth. The first one they did not get it numb at all. I felt everything, from the moment the drill hit my tooth to them putting the filling in. They felt bad, but I insisted they kept drilling. I was afraid if they stopped to numb it more I would be late for work. This time they gave me 2 doses of the normal numbing substance. They started drilling, and I felt nothing at first. As they drilled deeper the pain greatened. Knowing I was in pain, and not wanting to go through with it, gave me some of the good stuff. This completely numbed my mouth, but the taste was horrible. After 2.5 hours, they finally finished. My cheek is swollen and I will not be able to eat for a few more hours yet. They fear I will either bite my tongue off or knock the cavity loose. I had number 32 filled 2 weeks ago and 1, 17, and 18 done today. Three of those teeth are my wisdom teeth and 18 is just a molar. The dentist asked after he had filled 32 and 1 and had already drilled 17, if I just wanted to get my wisdom teeth pulled, but I told him they weren't causing any pain and he was almost done filling them anyways. I got through it ok, I guess.

Casino Night

This last Saturday I left Wichita at 1230 in the morning for a casino in Oklahoma. This was my first time at a casino so I was advised not to take much money. Before we left I went to the ATM, withdrew 40 bucks, and headed south with a few buddies. They were all regulars at this particular casino and rolled in with 100 bucks each. I felt cheap, but realized this was all I could afford to lose. I started the night playing 3 card poker, I learned it on the spot, but there really isn't much too it. The dealer deals you three cards and you bet against the dealer, there is no strategy besides knowing what a decent hand is and the payouts are printed on the felt anyways. I went down 20 bucks pretty fast as the minimum bet is 5 dollars and it cost 50 cents to play. Took the remaining 15 bucks to the slots, hit 56 dollars and cashed out. Everyone else had lost all 100 and here I was, the casino virgin, making all the money. I took 16 of it and lost it at 3 card poker. I think the trick to winning at 3 card is to have enough money to actually play more than 3 hands. Regardless, I left the casino at 4 am with 40 bucks, the same amount I started the night with. I did not look at the night a waste but as an experience of a lifetime.

Hope your weekend was as fun as mine.

Thanksgiving Break

So far my break has been very uneventful; besides sleeping and watching the first 4 seasons of Entourage, I have not done much until last night. I started my first day at Chester's last night. It was actually pretty fun; I found out some SigEp alums hold managerial positions at this particular restaurant. Last night I also went out for the first time, I have recently been hooked on the TV series Entourage and watched all 4 seasons in 4 days. I am writing this extremely tired and fast as I have to be at work in 20 minutes and I didnt go to sleep until 7 A.M. last night, or this morning.

Thanksgiving was pretty fun; I sat around all day, ate and watched the shockers almost beat the 16th ranked Georgetown in basketball. We controlled the game but trailed Georgetown by about 5 points the entire game. We were just unable to make our shots, we shot about 30 percent, whereas Georgetown shot above 50 percent. It is unfortunate that we lost but at least we know that we can contend with the big dogs this year. Thats all for today, I have to get to work. Later

Job Search

I found out last night I owed my father a couple thousand dollars for my wreck and increased insurance price. I knew I owed him some money, but hadn't realized exactly how much the total was. Anyways, I went and applied at Chester's Chop House, a high class steak house and will be applying for a day job at Bank of America tomorrow. I went as long as I possibly could without a job and am strongly regretting my decision. It will take some time for me to pull out of this slump but I will manage.

Anyways, my knee is still swollen but my doc didn't expect anything else, as this was my fifth time dislocating it. He says it will just take time and there was nothing he could do. I am still going to physical therapy and am lifting weights with my leg in my free time. Thats about all for today, will write more soon.

Knee Update

I have been seeing my physical therapist and and orthopedic surgeon for well over a month and a half now. Up until this last visit they said my knee had been getting better. The swelling, no matter how well I attend to it, will not go down. I have been icing and taking anti-inflammatory pills everyday but cant seem to reduce the swelling. I go and see my doctor again on the 18th, I will probably have to have the fluids extracted again, which is very painful, and then get a MRI. My PT thinks I might have chipped my patella, which keeps the knee inflamed. Will tell you more after Wednesday. Hopefully I wont need surgery.

Weekend in Rolla

This past weekend I went on a trip to visit the SigEp chapter in Rolla, MO. Most of my brothers from Wichita went along with me. Rolla is the engineering branch of the University of Missouri. The guys there are really down to earth and cool guys, just like us. We had a few adventures/ endeavors that shall remain unspoken but just know they make really funny stories. I just am not at liberty to say some of these, not because it is a student blog on the WSU website, but because I am not allowed to speak of them. We went to their football game on Saturday and watched them absolutely destroy Southwest Baptist. We also toured the town, which took a whole 10 minutes. Their restaurants, besides the taco bell and mcdonalds, were horrible. Their favorite was my absolute worst. Needless to say, I was glad to be back in Wichita, not to mention the girl to guy ratio is something like 60 guys to 30 girls. Anyways will post more soon.

Halloween Adventures

As all of you should know, Halloween was last Friday. I had a blast, I dressed up, or in some cases, dressed down, as Michael Phelps. I wore a black speedo, eight gold medals, a Phelps swim cap, and a pair of goggles. This was a free outfit, as I swam in high school and already had everything needed. The only work I put into this was putting the letters P-H-E-L-P-S on both side of the swim cap and swimming a few laps the day before. Needless to say I was a big hit at the party. There are a few pics on my facebook, I will probably upload just one of them, as they are quite revealing. But the party was fun, a lot of my old friends from high school actually came so I had fun with them.

Easy Week

Ok so next week I dont have anything going on in my classes. It will be very much needed as the previous week was killer with English papers. I think I will start swimming, as I cannot run or do anything with my knee. Aerobic exercise is what I need now to stay in some sort of shape. I have 6 more weeks before my doc will release me to start being active, like running and things like that. I am still going in and getting fluid ejected from my knee every 2 weeks but am almost able to walk without a noticeable limp. I can bend the knee almost 90 degrees which is great improvment. I have difficulties walking down stairs but walking up them come with ease. Will continue to keep you posted on my recovery.

My Fun-Filled Weekend

Friday night started off great with family night with SigEp. I love the family, Untouchables, I am in and look forward to family nights every year. This is the time when some of the alumni come out of the houses and step away from their families for a night. The night usually starts with just SigEps and then throughout the night a few girls are called and they come hang out with us. Overall, fun night.

Saturday we had our date party, Cowboys. It was a cowboy themed party and everyone brought a date. It was hosted at one of my brothers' parents house. We had a bonfire, DJ, dance ground, and hay bails to sit on. I had fun dancing with some of the best looking cowgirls there that night. I am not going to lie, it was difficult to dance with my knee, but I discarded the pain for the girls, lol. Anyways date parties are always a blast until its time to leave. The bus ride home has some effect on everyone that makes them want to go to bed, even though its only 12:00. Regardless, we got everyone safe rides home and the night turned into a success.

Sunday was not as much fun as I sat around the Gamma Phi Beta sorority house doing homework all day. Regardless, it was a fun weekend and cannot wait until our Formal Date Party. Hope everyone had an equally fun weekend.

Class is Canceled

Well it is Thursday night and I just got an e-mail saying my English class is canceled for tomorrow. This was great news seeing as how I would have had a paper due. I figured since I am no longer working on the paper I would make a post.

Last week I started a new job at Abercrombie and Fitch. Now this was not meant for a serious job by any means, but a temp job until I found a real one. The job was presented to me and almost forced upon me. I was merely shopping for clothes with a buddy of mine when jobs were offered to us on the spot. I thought I could have a fun time working there since our managers are ridiculously cool. Well, it turns out our managers are overly obsessed with us and want us working more than we are scheduled. My friend Maks and I laugh at his obsessiveness, which really helps us get through the 4 hour shifts. Haha we truly have a fun time working there, if only the pay was better.

This Saturday SigEp is hosting our date party called Cowboys, I have an awesome date and will be sure to have pictures and more details on Sunday.

Knee Update

With 2 weeks down one would have thought I would be able to bend my knee again, wrong. I have been seeing my Physical Therapist but have little to no movement in my knee. I must admit the treatment of my Orthopedic Surgeon and the exercises my PT has assigned have helped tremendously. My OS actually stuck a needle in my leg and ejected most of the extra fluid my knee had accrued. This was an extremely painful procedure, especially for one who absolutely despises needles. Unfortunately, the swelling has returned and will probably have to get more ejected. Last time he took so much out, he made me eat sugar so I would not pass out. I have until next Monday to get the swelling down; lots of ice and anti-inflammatory pills for the next couple of days. Anyways I have to wear my knee immobilizer for the next 3 weeks, this means I wont be able to walk normal for 3 weeks. I will get over it though, lol.

Fall Semester

With classes well underway this semester I have established grades as well as credibility with my teachers. If any of you new readers have taken the time to go back and read some of my old post, you would have realized I struggled in my first year of college. With poor grades, I had a lot to complain about and wrote about it in my blogs. This semester has been a 100% turnaround grade wise. I have all A's and one B, and the B is only 1% from an A. I have re-focused my aspirations in life and have been studying more. As some of you know, I lost my scholarship last year due to grades and getting a 4.0 this semester should re-qualify myself for scholarship. I have a lot to work for this semester and have been doing everything possible to get it done. Enough about my school work, how have your classes been going? If you are a senior in high school, how are you enjoying your final year? and how is your college search going? Just leave a comment and I will make sure to respond to it.

Season Ending Injury

So last Friday I played Kansas State University in a club soccer game. The game was going great until a series of unfortunate event occurred to me. I was almost knocked out by teammate as we collided heads. I saw stars and others heard the hit. They wondered how I was not on the ground with a concussion. Then , about two minutes later I leaped to block a shot and on my way down twisted my knee and dislocated my patella. There are many different kinds of dislocations with the knee, mine was the worst. My knee cap was off to the side of my leg, just chilling there by itself. 911 was called and when they arrived there, they just started walking to me. They took their time with everything. I delayed the soccer game 30 minutes because that is how long it took them to get me onto a stretcher. 2 firetrucks, 2 police cars, and one ambulance showed up to assist me. It was ridiculous. I wanted to pop my knee back into place myself but they told me i had to wait until I got to the ER. I didnt even need to go to the hospital. All I had to do was straighten my knee out and the knee would have gone back into place, yet I had to wait over an hour with my knee out of place before a doctor could tell me to straighten my leg. The doctor did not do anything to assist the knee while I straightened, it was stupid going to the ER. I could have done everything myself. This was the 5th time I have done this to the same left knee. I just call my physical therapist and then he helps me out. I have never gone to the hospital before. I probably seem like I am pissed but its because I really am. I know more about knee's than the medics or whatever they are called that tried to help me. Anyways, I am seeing a PT now and will hopefully be able to walk again soon.

Greek Week finals

Saturday was the final day for Greek Week 2008 and this was a big relief. I enjoyed taking the responsibility for SigEp but at the same time did not enjoy how the week was run. It was unorganized and point system seemed off to me and many others. Needless to say, SigEp did not win, but its alright. We are not losing any sleep over it, lol. Friday was the most intense day of the week. We had chariot races between all the houses, this consisted of using a bed or couch or anything really to race an obstacle course. We did not start building our chariot until after 6:00 and the race was at 7:00. Everyone else had started days in advance and were finished before we even started. Somehow we were able to finish the chariot in time. Being the Greek god, I had to ride on the chariot while others pushed. I had a scheduling conflict as I had a soccer game vs K-state at 7:00 as well. I played a little bit of soccer, had the coach take me out so I could race, raced, then right back onto the soccer field. Fortunately for me, the race was just outside the parking lot of the soccer field. We ended up taking 2nd place and that really made the other houses mad because of the lack of time we put into ours and the excessive amount of time they put into their chariots. It doesn't really matter because we all had fun doing it. But will talk about the soccer game and my season ending injury next time.

Greek Week

Alright, if you couldnt tell already I am very pressed for time so these next few blogs will not be very long. We are in the midst of Greek Week and I was elected to represent SigEp to be out Greek god. I am the main guy in charge of everything. I have to organize and get guys to participate in the various activities they have for the week. I will have the most difficulty with the talent show portion of week. I will most likely get some guys to sing some N Sync song or something along those lines, just to be funny. The only problem is I dont have time as I have a 7 page paper due Friday. I will let you know more details about Greek Week later on.

Date Party

SigEps first date party was night and I had a blast. We had a live dj and the setup could not have been better. I was able to meet (and dance) with a bunch of the new sorority girls, which was a plus. They all seem really cool for the most part. My date, a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority was a blast. People have started calling us perma-dates because we are just really good friends and I have taken her to the past few date parties and plan on going to more with her, as long as I dont get a girlfriend between now and October 25th. Anyways, date parties are always the best parties, if you are a girl, try to befriend a SigEp and get him to take you to Cowboys in October.

Beta Bash

Today a fellow fraternity was hosting a charity volleyball tournament. I enjoyed it very much as I have not played volleyball for a couple of months. I put together a team and we made it to the semi-finals in the competitive division. These guys we played were all out of college and probably in their late 20's. You could tell they play a lot of volleyball. Some of the teams were ridiculously good. I am just glad we made it pretty far and that I got to play.

Tonight SigEp is having our first date party. I will let you know tomorrow how it went.

Buzz Cut

I just recently changed my appearance drastically. I went from hair to my eyes and a full beard to a buzzed and beardless. Now this is the first time I have ever shaved my head and this has really been an attention getter. There has been countless people who havent recognized me at first. I walked into class today for the first time with the shave and literally everyone was just starring at me, wondering where all my hair had gone. No girl has said they dislike it yet, hopefully they arent just being nice. Well anyways, here are before and after pics.

Rain, Rain Go Away

So it has been raining non-stop for the past few days here and it is really starting to get annoying. I have a mowing business and the 10 inches of rain we are going to get by Sunday are really making it hard to mow. Streets downtown are flooded, my TRUCK almost got stuck when I was picking up someone last night. The forecast shows clear skies on Monday, so I am really looking forward to that. But I guess I really cant be complaining, I could have a hurricane in my backyard like Houston. I guess thats all, more tomorrow.

NFL Kickoff

Sunday, the best day of the week due to the NFL. I love sitting on my couch or going to Larry Buds and watching every game. My team is the Kansas City Chiefs and thought they had a chance to beat the Pats, although the result was a loss, it sets a promising season. Croyle should only be out for a bit and Huard is not a bad back up. I think the Chiefs make it to the playoffs in a wild card position and record of 10-6. Call me crazy but if they limit their stupid mistakes, they have a shot.

Let me know who your team is and will give you my respected opinion on them.

Athletics Outside of Intramurals

This year I have decided to play on the WSU club soccer team as well as join a baseball league with fellow SigEps. It will be tough to make the soccer team as they have already been practicing for quite some time. The starting roster is pretty much set and I know I lack the skills (and the knee) to start but I should be a good substitute for them. My tryout is next Tuesday. Both club and intramural sports are great ways to play the sports WSU does not offer. Soccer is spondored by the university and they pay for our trips but is not considered Division 1 like our other sports.

I excited yet nervous for the baseball league I am joining. I have not played in over three years and am used to SLOW pitch softball. Hopefully it wont take much to get back into the swing of things or else our team will be in some trouble. I think we are going to the batting cages soon to get a feel for how difficult it will be to hit a ball coming at us at 80+ mph vs an estimated 20 mph with a softball. I will keep you all posted on how the tryout goes as well as the baseball season. Later

Question for You.

Alright so lately I have been wondering if anyone actually reads my blog. With this this being the second semester WSU has had students keep a blog I would hope its publicity and status should have increased. So before I keep spending countless hours not only thinking about matterial to write but also narrating I just would like an idea of how many people read and are INTERESTED in my blog or any of the three other bloggers for that matter? Then, if you are regular on my blog, do you like what you read? Is there anything in particular about me you would like me to write about
?

Anyways just shoot a comment to me and I will do what I can to help you out because, afterall, I am writing this blog to benefit you.

School Re-Unites

Summer classes went just about as well as any class taking up your long desired break from school could have gone. Needless to say I enjoyed the two and half weeks I had off until classes started back up again for the fall semester. It would be a lie if I said I wasn't happy for this fall semester. I feel much older and mature having that first year down and seeing all of the extremely young freshmen. This feeling gives me something to strive for, a chance to set a great example for the innocent little children trying to set their aspirations and decide what they wish to do for the rest of their entire lives.

Thats about all for now, will have more on my classes tomorrow.

Life

Alright so words from the wise, do not take summer classes while in college. Absolute worst decision of my life. Class booked my afternoons everyday and then studying booked all of nights. We had tests and quizzes EVERY Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Not only was I unable to hold a job this summer but I also did not get to hang out and have a fun relaxing summer break. Being a lake/pool fanatic, it was difficult to turn down lake trips when they came up, and trust me they happened a lot. But back to the actual class itself, I am only doing a little bit better in it than I did last semester. Now if I had an A in the class, the nonexistent social life might have been worth it. Anyways, I have finals this Tuesday and Friday so I have been dormant. Everyone keeps calling me asking where I am at. It hurts to say I am not doing anything tonight because I am studying. So as I said before DONT TAKE SUMMER CLASSES, if you can avoid them.

Summer

Alright, so I have not been on this blog for a while now and I apologize. I will not be blogging near as much during the summer as I did during the school year, as I am no longer employed by the university and thus required to blog 3 times per week. I grew attached to blogging and simply wanted to keep it running.

So far this summer has been a blast. I have left town three times already; twice to Table Rock and once to Hamilton, KS. I am planning another lake trip and am about to head up to Manhattan to go to Country Stampede. I honestly think I have overbooked my summer with work, summer class, and all of these vacations. I didnt do so on my Anatomy final so I am retaking it over the summer. Classes start June 9th and get over sometime late July. I am taking it from the same professor so I can only hope I can figure out and do well on his test.

Well I am off to my friends' sister's Quinceanara. Until next time.

Finally Done With Anatomy

So I took my Anatomy final today; hard as hell, but easier than expected. I studied all the wrong things. Our S.I. instructor told us what she thought Dr. Thomas would put on the final and what we should really focus on so naturally, I focused most of my studies to the Bohr Effect, the Renin Cascade, and Meiosis I and II. Well turns out only one small question was asked about Meiosis I. I am worried about my grade but realize that everything will work out in the end. I just need to focus on my English II and my psychology finals.

Greek Convocation

We had our Greek Convocation this past Monday and it turned out quite well for SigEps. This convocation is the awards ceremony at the end of the year where fraternities and sororities are awarded for outstanding academics, athletics, community service and many other attributes. As far as SigEp is concerned, we won grades in Spring of 07, all sports 08, and outstanding fraternity of 08. The outstanding fraternity is awarded to the fraternity who has the most balance overall in all aspects of life. We won grades and sports, which means we are athletic but smart at the same time. We accrued over 16,500 in philanthropy dollars this past year as well as several hundred community service hours. So it was a successful convocation all in all. Later

The End is Near

So my first year of college is rapidly coming to an end and it is evident by how much work I have to do. Two nights ago I pulled an all-nighter writing a ten page paper for English. I finished the paper at 11:20 am just in time for my 11:30 class. I still have a bunch of online work to do will be finishing most of it tonight as I have absolutely nothing going on tonight. I really cant quite fathom the idea of having a free night. There has not been one night this entire semester where I didnt have a meeting or an intramural event. I will enjoy a chill night and get caught up on some homework. That is all for now. Later

Intramural Champions

Last Tuesday we played Phi Delta Theta for the championship softball game. We absolutely demolished them 14-6. This insured the all sports trophy for the fraternity league. It was an exciting time, as we have not lost all sports in over 5 years. This year have been very good for SigEp. We won sports cup, hippodrome, grades, anchor splash, and many other events and competitions this year. More important that all of these winnings is that we started to build a brand new house this past Saturday. The new house is going to pretty sweet. Anyways I have a busy weekend ahead of me with mowing and schoolwork. I will post again Monday. Later

Championship Day

Well today is the day we play in the championship game for Intramural Softball. We crushed Beta 19-4 in the preliminary match. Kappa Sigma forfeited to Phi Delt so we now have more on the line. We HAVE to win this game in order to win the Intramural Cup for the fraternity league. We beat them earlier in the season 4-0 but it was still a close game. I will be holding down first base with my boy KB on the rubber. Wish us luck and I will let you know how the game turns out tomorrow.

School is coming to an end, only 2 more weeks left. I am excited for summer and the good weather but really just cant believe my first year of college is almost over. I need to buckle down and study hard for the remaining 2 weeks so I dont have to re-take any classes over the summer.

I havent really figured out where I am going to be living once school is out as I cant live in the dorms forever. I need to find 2 more roommates to move in with me at Iron Horse. I will keep you updated with my housing situation, but more on that next time. Later

Beach Volleyball

So we finally put up our beach volleyball net last week and have been playing a lot of volleyball lately. Since we break ground on our new house this weekend and we have to get rid of our volleyball court, we are trying to play as much v-ball as possible. Since I dont have any homework tonight, I will just go to our Intramural softball game then head back to SigEp and play some sand volleyball. It is by far my favorite sport. I was introduced to the game last summer when I was being recruited by SigEp. I instantly became a big hit and everyone wanted me on their team. But I am excited for good weather and will post next week.

Softball Tournament

We are about to start the Intramural championship softball tournament. Our first game was supposed to be today but was canceled due to rain. We play Beta first, then if we win, we play Phi Delt or Kappa in the championship game. If we win the tournament it will assure SigEp the intramural trophy for this year, as we finished 2nd in soccer, 1st in football, 2nd in volleyball, 2nd in basketball, and 1st in softball. In volleyball and basketball, we won the league but not the tournament and the tournament is worth more points. Anyways we should have no trouble at all winning the whole thing. I hope it stops raining so we can play some ball. Anyways thats all for now.

We are Champs

So Hippodrome is finally over and this will be the last time I bore you with my hippo blogs. We won. All of our efforts did not go in vain. It was a close battle between SigEp and Phi Delt but were proclaimed victors by the ever so slim margin of 2 points. After the awards ceremonies our directors got on the roof of SigEp and opened champagne bottles and sprayed us all with it. We celebrated with our 6 foot tall trophy and bragging rights for a full year. We all went out and bought celebratory cigars. Needless to say we had an amazing time that night. Anyways when we get the video I will post it up here for you guys to see. Here are a few pictures. The Toast Victory The Toys Celebrating

Almost Over

We had our first hippodrome production last night and it went very well. Everyone thought we did amazing; they also thought our performance was a lot better than the Beta/DG skit. Our directors were pleased with what we had accomplished over the past 2 months. Tri Delt and SAE, as well as Phi Delt and A Phi perform tonight. Our last production is this Saturday and this one is worth the most points. I am glad we dont have practice Thursday and Friday as I have a lot of homework. I am looking forward to Saturday and the sudden abundance of free time I will soon have. Anyways I have a softball game tonight. If we win it almost assures us of the Athletic Trophy this year. Well that is all for now.

Randomness

I was able to mow finally this Sunday. I mowed 6 yards in 4 hours with lawnmower troubles. I think that is pretty quick, especially since I mow alone. I am excited the weather is finally taking a turn for the better. This week should be high 60s and low 70s. Its time to start working out so I can get my six pack back before summer begins and I am at the pool almost everyday.

Semester is coming to an end really fast and I have a lot of work yet to do. I have two 7 page English papers due really soon, I have a bunch of online work to make up, and I have to start studying for my Anatomy midterm. I will be kept pretty busy until summer. I will post more tomorrow. Later

I cant Mow!

Seeing as how I own my own mowing business I mow the yards around my schedule. Lately I haven't been able to mow at all due to the weather. Whenever I have free time it is either raining or freezing. I need some good weather soon as I have only mowed one yard once. All of the other yards are in desperate need of a mow. Had I not gone out of town last weekend, I would have been caught up and not worrying about anything, but since I am my own boss, I pick fun over work. Anyways I couldn't think of much to write about today so I am cutting this short. Later

The Closing of the Semester

Believe it or not, this semester is coming to an end. My grades were up for a little while but coming into finals, anything could happen. With only 1 month to go I am going to buckle down and just study. I might move back to my parents house for the remainder of the year so I can really concentrate on the books. I have to get a B or better on my English and Anatomy finals in order to get the grade I want and I need to get a high B or A on my Psychology final. I could probably get a 20% on my medical terminology class and still have an A so I am not worried about that class. I just have a lot of studying to do and the dorms are too distracting. I figured studying at my parents house had worked my entire life, why not go back there and try again.

Texas Softball Tournament

So last weekend I participated in a nationwide SigEp softball tournament in Arlington, Texas. It was an amazing time. We rented an RV to ride down in and rolled into parking lot like big ballers. We were the talk of the tournament, we were 1st place out of the undergrad teams and placed 4th overall. We lost to an Alumni team from Louisiana, who had been playing together for over 30 years 7-4 and we lost 6-5 to a different alumni team from Arlington. Both games we should have won due to bad calls by the umpires. The first game we were up 3-4 going into the bottom of the 7th, which was the last inning, we had 2 outs, they grounded to short, the throw was off but I was able to make the grab. They ump said I pulled my foot, even the other team said they got lucky on that call. Anyways, our pitcher, who was a last second replacement because our normal one had something come up, walks the next three batters and then one guy hits a grand slam. We got sent to the losers bracket, won the next game, then played the Alumni team from the Arlington Chapter. We were down 3-4 going into the bottom of the 7th with 2 outs, the batter before me, pops up to the left fielder. We had the tying run on third. The left fielder drops the ball but the ump didnt see it. We got screwed over twice in the last inning which cost us the games. O well, we did good and we will come back next year for the trophy. I am tired the weekend wore me out, I will put up pictures soon. Later

It was a Successful Tryout

I got the part of curtain guy. Now you guys might be laughing at me but it is a serious and difficult role. I had two injuries during my first practice, I sprained my wrist and I pulled a glute when I jumped out of my chair to rush to close the curtains. I am doing better today but if it keeps bothering me, I might have to try a different position that requires less physical labor. lol. Anyways our skit looks good and we have some cool dances. I am looking forward to the final performance when we finally pull all of our stunts together and win the 'drome. That is all for today.

Hippodrome = No Sleep

Alright so I did not think that I was already busy enough this semester with all of the things I partake in so I decided to add another activity, Hippodrome. Hippodrome is this skit that all of the groups and organizations participate in. All of the groups compete against each other while the fraternities and sororities compete. Each year a sorority pairs up with a different fraternity, last year we were with Delta Gamma and this year we are with Gamma Phi Beta. We have to write and direct a play. The script is written and all of the actors have almost all their lines and movements memorized as they have been practicing for over a month. I am joining as a set guy or something like that. I might try out for the curtain guy because I dont know anything about plays. All I know is that I have to be at the practices from 8 to sometime after midnight every night. I am not sure when I will sleep for the next three weeks because I am pretty sure I wont have time to. This semester has already turned me into an insomniac, adding hippodrome practices every night is not going to help any. Anyways I will be attending my first practice tonight and I will let you know if I am capable of maintaining the curtains.

My Aunt's Wedding

Last Friday was my Aunt Kim's wedding. I had a lot of fun meeting her new husbands Sean's family. I dressed very outlandish for this wedding, wearing black slacks, a black shirt, with a white tie, a white belt, and white shoes. The wedding was non-traditional. My Aunt Kim actually walked up the aisle with Sean and there wasn't even a reception after words. We did all go and eat at Olive Tree, which was amazing. I saw all of my cousins and even planned to hang out with them that night but I forgot I had a Psychology test the next morning and hadn't started studying. It wasn't until 1:00am did I realize I had to actually finish a lot of homework before I could take the test at 9:30am. I stayed up until 5:00am finishing my online quizzes and assignments. Needless to say, after my test, I was a bum. I sat around the SigEp house all say and played Call of Duty 4, which was the first time I have played any sort of video game since college started. I am tired and ready to head out of here so I will post again tomorrow.

Victory is Sweet

We are currently undefeated in Intramural Softball. We defeated Beta 10-6 and Phi Delt 4-0. We have been struggling offensively but defensively we have been flawless. Beta only scored so many runs because they have one player who can jack a home run every single time he is at bat. He batted 4 times and hit 4 home runs, otherwise the game wouldn't have even been close. We are now preparing for a big SigEp softball tournament in Dallas the first weekend in April. It should be a lot of fun. We took 1st place in the undergrad and 3rd place overall, including alumni, last year. We hope to win it all this year. I will let you know how the tournament turns out later. We need to work on our batting so we are going to the batting cages this Sunday to get some extra practice.

My anatomy class has been going a lot better. My grade is slowly rising and my teacher is there to help when I need it. I hope everything will work out in the end. I am tired and have other things to do, so this is all for today.

Softball Begins

Today officially kicks off the start of the Intramural Softball League for Greeks at WSU. Sig Ep plays its first game today at 7:30 at the Heskett Center against Beta. I will be starting first base for the A team. I am really not sure how we will do because we have only had one practice but I doubt Beta has practiced much more than we have. We won softball last year but this year I have heard Beta and Phi Delt are actually pretty good. Our two toughest games are tonight and tomorrow as we have Phi Delt Wednesday. Anyways wish us luck.

Spring Break

This was the first spring break I did not go anywhere. I stayed home and felt like a real bum. I watched a lot of basketball and got caught up on some of my online class work. I usually travel to Colorado to go skiing or down to Florida with the family but my younger brother's spring break was the week before mine. I enjoyed the different break and am actually looking forward to summer now. Seeing as how there is only a month and a half left of school, I need to really crack down and focus on my studies and try to raise my grades.

Even with the extra help I have been receiving for Anatomy, I still have not been able to improve my testing. I am not sure what to do yet but I am sure I will figure something out.

Work Out / Pump It Up.

Yesterday was the first time I have worked out all semester and the first long distance run I have been on since 8th grade. I ran two miles and felt like I was going vomit after the first, I pushed myself and finished the 2nd. It was the toughest two miles ever. In 8th grade, when I ran cross-country, I could run 5 miles and not even be tired. I am just out of shape.

My friend Kyle invited me out to Pump It Up with him for his little cousins birthday party. Pump It Up is this aired up obstacle course with slides and whatnot. Kyle and I actually had a fun time. There were boxing gloves and a boxing ring where we boxed at. The obstacle course was actually kind of hard because it was meant for smaller kids and was hard for us to squeeze through some of the obstacles. Anyways I am extremely sore and in lots of pain from the running and Pump It Up. It hurts to move my legs and I have difficulties walking up stairs. I guess it is time for me to get back into shape. Later,

Mowing Season

Today I think I will kick off the mowing season. It is really nice out and the grass is just starting to grow. I really enjoy mowing, especially during the summer, because I like to be outside in the sun. I do tan fairly easy so there is another perk. I have my own business with nine yards. Over this past summer I had accrued as many as 25, but that was too much for me to handle. I tried looking for a partner but no one wanted to work for me. I had no choice but to drop a few yards. I am going to check on my equipment after I get of work at the MWC and get started mowing. I hope I will still find time to get my school work done. Anyways I am heading out of here. Later

Saint Patty's Day

Last night was a lot of fun, a fellow SigEp and I decided to dress up like white trash, but some called it green trash. We found these green mullets and these really trashy hats, we wore green shirts and frayed jean shorts. I am not going to lie, we looked pretty good. I don't have my camera with me now, but I will be sure to put some pictures up.

I am excited that it is Spring Break but even more excited that my sister is coming home today. I have not seen her since Christmas Break. I will be back on this blog later.

Anatomy Quizzes

I took one of my Anatomy quizzes today and have another tomorrow. This one went well I think, I switched around the Flexor and Extensor Carpi muscles on the arm, but I knew everything else on the quiz. I am more worried for the quiz tomorrow. I am so confused in the lecture it is not even funny. I dont know what we are going over now or what to study for. I asked for some advise from my teacher but it did not help much. I will be going to some of my fellow SigEp brothers for help in the class. Hopefully this works...

Sick again

Today I woke up barely able to get out of bed, I felt horrible. After pressing snooze on my alarm at least three times; I got up and into the shower. I still felt like a drudge and decided to skip my classes for the day. These were the first classes I have missed all semester. I tried to call into work but my boss was not in her office for the day. So I reluctantly came into work and here I am now writing my blog. I found out that I did not miss anything in my English class but I missed a pop quiz in Anatomy. This was the first pop quiz we have had all year, he just so happened to have it on the first class I miss all year. What luck eh? O well, I have two more anatomy quizzes coming up tomorrow and Friday. I am going to start studying for them now so I can go to the baseball game later tonight. I will post again tomorrow.

My Birthday Weekend

As you all know my birthday was last Friday. I had an ok time. I was really tired and didn't feel much like going out. I showed up for the baseball game at 3 but it was canceled. I am not sure why, but I think the Harvard players were wimps and didn't want to play in the cold, so they made it up on Saturday. The first game we won 16 to 3, the next game we won 11 to 10 in extra innings, then we played them again on Sunday and won 13 to 2. It was a successful series against an ivy league team. After I found out the game was canceled I went to my room and slept, I know, lame right? Then I woke up and went to Sig Ep and just hung out there until about 1:00, when I went back to bed. Needless to say, I was rejuvenated for Saturday night.

I had a great time at our Heaven and Hell date party. I was dressed as an angel and my date was a devil. My date was awesome and I had a lot of fun with her. There were lots of funny costumes as well as some lame ones. Two people dressed up as Roman gods, some dressed up as priests, others as Jesus, but wore tuxedo T-shirts. It's from the movie Talladega Nights when Cal Naughton Jr says, "I like to think of Jesus as wearin' a Tuxedo T-shirt, cause it says, like, I want to be formal, but I'm here to party too." So the tuxedo T-shirts were pretty funny. The costumes were great and the party was awesome.

Sunday was a blast as well. It was so nice out. I went to the baseball game and watched WSU cream Harvard for the third time. After that I went back to my parents house and picked up all of my baseball gear because intramural softball is about to start and we had our first practice. I am pretty sure I will be on the A team, which is very good, especially for a freshman coming in and replacing an older member that was on the championship team last year. Practice was a lot of fun. After that I just went back to my fraternity and played this game called washers and then went to a movie.

I feel great, probably the best I have felt on a Monday in a long time. I am excited that I only have one more week until spring break and even more excited that I don't have very much going on in my classes this week. So I am the most energetic I have been in a while. Take care.

Heaven and Hell

This Saturday my fraternity is putting on this date party called heaven and hell. So basically you can dress up as an angel, which is what I am doing, or a devil. We all have our dates picked out and most of us have our costumes ready; I just have my idea. I will probably put it together Saturday morning before the dance.

There is another baseball game this Friday, I will be attending it after I get out of classes. Friday is also my birthday, so it should be a fun night. I turn the big one nine. Anyways I will fill you in on my weekend next Monday.

Intramural

Intramural sports are a big part of fraternity life. We are in basketball season now and we are currently undefeated. We have many 'A' team games and 'B' team games this week. So tonight I will play in the B team game and then watch the A team play. This is the final game of the regular season, then we go into the single elimination championship tournament. I am really looking forward to the softball season immediately following basketball. Baseball is my sport, I love watching and playing. This is why I was so excited for WSU baseball to start. Anyways, wish us luck for the tournament.

Another Quiz

Remember when I told you about my anatomy quiz last Thursday. Well we had another one today. It was alright, I thought I had prepared myself appropriately but I guess not. It was only a 1 page quiz, front and back, but the backside was impossible. I had no idea what any of the questions were asking.

English, surprisingly is going a lot better. I enjoy the class but still think my teacher is awesome. Anyways when I turn my edited papers back in I should have a very solid A in that class.

The Concert

Last night I went to the Seether, Breaking Benjamin, and 3 Days Grace concert. It was a lot of fun. It was the first time that I had been to a concert at the Coliseum. Breaking Benjamin put on a an excellent show as did 3 days grace. There was the local band called Hurt, they were okay. I did like one of their song, I don't remember what it was called but it was awesome. Well, I am excited that it is Friday and look forward to writing next Monday.

Anatomy

I am taking this course with Dr. Thomas called Anatomy and Physiology, it is a very difficult course. Dr. Thomas is a great professor and really teaches the material, but his tests are extremely difficult. Anyways I have kind of been stressing about a midterm that is coming up this Thursday because I have a 7 page paper due that same day. O well I will get through it. After work on Thursday I will be going to the Breaking Benjamin, Seether, and Three Days grace concert, so it will be all worth it.

First Baseball Game

The baseball game was awesome this Friday, I was only able to stay for half of it but still had a blast. We just hang out in the outfield and chill on the hill. It was unfortunate that the other games this week were canceled. I woke up Saturday morning and the first thing I did was get ready for the game. I went over to my fraternity house and we were about to walk out the door when we found out it was canceled. O well, at least their next home game is on my birthday.

The 14 hours went over smoothly to say the least. I had fun working at the admissions office but Red Rock was horrible. We were so slow I had 4 tables and made nearly nothing. Needless to say when I got off work, I went home and went straight to bed.

I am really excited for baseball season to start this weekend. If anyone is seriously reading these, you need to come out and watch the Shockers play ball. The games are a lot of fun, not to mention we are ranked number nine in the nation. So come to the games and I am out.

Broom Ball/AVID Day

Alright so broom ball was amazing, we had about 40 guys show up to play. We had these little sticks and played hockey with a big ball. It was hard to keep your balance and run on the ice. It is a very dangerous sport because people are slipping and falling all of the time. My team lost unfortunately but I scored half of our teams points.

AVID day stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and WSU put on an event for the freshman and sophomores in High School involved with this group. It was a lot of fun. I was able to give my first campus tour, with help though. Anyways I have a long 14 hours of work today, from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. I will tell you how my day went tomorrow.

I will actually be able to enjoy the remainder of this semester. I am excited for meeting tonight and broom ball afterwards. It is a hockey game we play but with brooms and no skates. We are on ice with our shoes. I have not played this before but it should be a lot of fun. Anyways I will tell you more about it tomorrow.

ENGLISH 102

Remember when I told you how hard my English class was, it has progressed in its difficulty. Tuesday night I stayed up until 7 in the morning trying to type a paper and do the other homework my English teacher had assigned. The paper in and of itself was the most difficult part of the night but I got through it and extremely tired now. This is all part of college; some nights you will have no homework and other nights you will have to stay up all night trying to finish it.

My other classes are going well, I only missed 1 on my anatomy quiz and haven't started any work on my online classes but since I just put in my 2 weeks notice at Red Rock I should have ample time to catch back up.

Quitting my Job

Alright so I have officially had enough; I can no longer work 40 hour a week at both of my jobs, attend school full time, and participate in all of my extra curricular activities. After I quit Red Rock Canyon Grill, I will have my entire weekend to recover from the stress from the previous week. Red Rock was the cause for a lot cramming and inadequate sleep. Although I hate to leave it, I need to. My academics need to come first, not money. I havent actually quit yet but I will be putting my two weeks notice in the next time I work. So if anyone is looking for a great job that pays excellent, go and apply for a job. They will be hiring soon.

S.I.

Supplementary Instruction is a program that WSU offers for those who need extra help in a particular course. These S.I. programs are free and are taught by students who did exceedingly well in that particular class. I have started going to these and they have really helped. They meet 3 times a week and all we do is go over the notes for the day. These are like a one on one class, our instructor really knows her information and does a really good job explaining everything. They have helped not only myself but the others that attend as well. Anyways just thought I would throw that important information out there.

Sick as a dog

Sorry I haven't posted in a while but I have been sick. I had strep throat and a fever of 104. I went to my doctor and he gave me some medicine and asked about my eating habits. I told him I ate a lot of meat and such but rarely touched any vegetables. He told me to go and buy some vitamin tablets because he didnt think I would start eating better. Anyways I am doing better, just in time for the weekend, haha. I am almost positive that I got at least 2 other people sick on my floor, either that or they got me sick. Anyways, I will hit this back up tomorrow.

Class

Classes are going really well for me this semester, a lot better than last. My study habits have improved drastically, I am staying on top of the classwork and not falling behind; much like last semester. I am not going to lie, my classes this semester are a lot tougher, English 2 is three times harder than English 1 and Anatomy and Physiology is just as tough as Chemistry. My two online courses are about to start, meaning I will have more work on my hands but I can handle it. Anyways hope all is well with you.

Fraternity Meeting

Monday night we had our first meeting this semester for my fraternity. It was great seeing all of the guys again. We discussed all of the upcoming events we are planning and introduced new guidelines for all to follow. Being part of this organization is probably the best decision I have made, not only have I established life-long friendships but I am part of a community that has connections. The network base that we has is so profound, it is amazing. Our alum consist of doctors, lawyers, CEOs, pilots, and teachers. We have a wide range of occupations and anyone of us would drop everything to help each other out in a heartbeat, whether it be will studies or help finding a job. Being a member has been a lot of fun as well, we have date parties once a month. These are going to be kind of like your high school dances but unmonitored and a little less formal. I am just going to reiterate myself one more time, it was the best decision I have ever made.

Party Bus/Basketball Game

Ok so this Saturday we did this event with the new incoming Dean's Scholars. We picked them up from their high school on a party bus and then took them to the basketball game. It was a lot of fun. Being a member of last years Dean's Scholars helped me to understand what these students are thinking concerning their college of choice. I took it upon myself Saturday night to show them all a good time, in hopes that they will attend WSU next fall. I think the students had a fun time on the bus dancing and singing and they all enjoyed the basketball game even though we lost.

Tonight we have our first official meeting for the semester for my fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon. I am looking forward to our re-adjournment and to see all of the guys again. Until next time.

Flashbacks/My First day of Class

Ok so last night I went to this dance club called Flashbacks with over half of the people on my floor. Flashbacks is a club that is 18 to enter and 21 to drink but is still fun for those under 21. What made it so fun was probably having all of my friends there, everyone on my floor is so close to one another. But anyways, Wednesday is college night there, which is why we all went. I had only been a few times before but for some of us it was there first time.

Yesterday I went to my first two classes this semester; English 2 and Anatomy and Physiology. I think they will be alright, I mean I definitely have better teachers this semester than last, although I have already been assigned a reading assignment in English. This semester will hopefully be better than last. I will be sure to keep you informed about my classes.

School Starts

Ok so school officially started today but I didnt have to go because I dont have classes on Tuesdays. So while I was still sleeping, other WSU students were off learning. I guess that my punishment for no class is extra hours of work. I work from 11:30 to 5:00 here in the admissions office on campus. Anyways I am glad that classes are starting again because you get to meet new people and make new friends. Hopefully my classes this semester are not as difficult as last semester.

Preparing for Classes

There is a lot that you have to do to get ready for classes. You have to sign up for classes that fit around your work schedule, which is sometimes hard to do. You have to then find your books and they can be expensive at times. Then you have to pay for your tuition and figure out who your teacher is and where your class is located. If you are fortunate enough, you will have scholarships that pay your way through college, which is nice. If you dont have scholarships and dont have enough money saved up, you then have to apply for student loans, which takes a while due to the extensive amounts of paperwork you have to fill out. College is a lot different from High School, it is a big change and takes time to adjust. My first semester was pretty rough but I am entering this semester with more confidence, now knowing the tricks of the trade.

Seeing people I have not seen all break, which is over a month for us, has been interesting and fun at the same time. WORK

Today is going to be a long day. I have work on campus beginning at noon, and then immediately following that I have to work at Red Rock Canyon Grill. My on campus job usually consists of updating data books and posting these blogs, but today I had to file paper work. I had to file the paper work for everyone that has applied to WSU within the last 2 years. It was long and tedious. I hope I never have to file again. I will be happy with just my blogs, that will fine with me. I get off work here in a little bit and then Red Rock will be calling my name. I just cant wait for the weekend so I can go hunting with my cousin.

This hunting trip will be a new experience because I have never been before. I have shot clay pigeons before but never actually shot at an animal with a shotgun before. It will be a good experience and I will be sure to let you know about it on Tuesday.

Christmas Break

Christmas break has been very laid back for me. I have been working quite a bit but other than that it has just been chill. I dont go back to school until the 22 which is nice because we had about 6 weeks off of school versus the usual 2 weeks we got in high school. There hasnt been a whole lot going on this break because a lot of my friends are either out of town or have gone back home. Well I am excited for the 13th because that is the day that everyone can move back into the dorms. We have nine days before classes start up again, they will be a fun nine days. I will keep you updated.

About the Author

Hi everyone, my name Ryan Floyd. I am a freshman here at Wichita State University. I was born in Alabama but raised here in Wichita. Choosing Wichita State was easy due to the extensive amounts of scholarships they distribute. Even though my parents live in Wichita, I still moved out of their house and into the residence hall. The residence halls are a lot of fun and they really help you get that college experience, even though Wichita is not considered a college town. That is all for today.
